Every golfer that has ever come in for Physiotherapy to rehab an injury or work on performance enhancement says the same thing.
“WE WANT MORE DISTANCE!”
To accomplish more DISTANCE when driving a golf ball golfers need:
• Flexibility
• Strength
• Balance
Flexibility of the shoulders, upper back, hips, and hamstrings is extremely important. In the photo we see Johnny opening the shoulders, upper spine and hip flexors.
Having a strong stable core which includes abdominals, shoulder girdle and hips is critical for golf to control your swing. In the photo William is working all three areas with this exercise that takes him out of the sagittal plane of motion just like golf does.
A golf swing has a lot of speed and requires a spiral of the spine and a weight shift through the lower body. For this to occur in harmony and with some WHIP golfers need good balance. Here, William is working on a single leg hip hinge with a dowel to maintain neutral spine (harder than it looks).
Another great side effect of improved flexibility, strength and balance is INJURY PREVENTION.
